HKPRAC Practitioner Course

The HKPRAC Practitioner of Kinesiology course is the most comprehensive and professional Kinesiology training available in Asia, and produces a quality of student that has gained recognition internationally. It is designed to help prepare students for working as confident and competent Kinesiologist with advanced skills.

  • The workshops are hands on and students will be constantly challenged and engaged as they develop their confidence and ability over the duration of the course. Students do not require any previous experience or knowledge as the course builds from ground zero.

In this Practitioner Course, students will explore more specific and specialised areas as they continue to consolidate their confidence and competence in the underlying session structure. It is at this final phase where students begin supervised practice and mentoring. This crucial aspect helps students gain confidence working in clinic-type conditions, as well as receive individual feedback to refine their skills.

  • There is no formal prerequisite to gain entry into the HKPRAC Practitioner of Kinesiology. Students who have previously completed the HKPRP Principles of Kinesiology and/or the HKFOU Foundations of Kinesiology, can receive recognition of prior learning towards the Practitioner course, meaning they will not have to repeat or pay for those workshops already covered.

Student whom may have other Kinesiology qualifications, such as the Australian HLT42812 Certificate IV in Kinesiology, may apply for recognition of prior learning. It will be up to the instructors to determine the degree of prior learning recognised.

  • Students may opt not to do the supervision and mentoring, and simply focus on undertaking the workshops.

Although a student will not receive the Practitioner certificate without these hours, they will receive formal certificates of attendance for each individual workshop they complete.

Students may also opt to undertake the supervision and mentoring at any time in the future to complete that component.

  • Where practical, we invite potential students to come in for a face-to-face meeting. This meeting is to better understand your needs and goals. We want to make sure that this course is appropriate for you. It is also a chance to go over course details and answer any questions you may have.

Once you decide to commit to the course, you will then fill in an enrolment form and pay the relevant fees. Once your fees are paid you will be formally enrolled and accepted into the course.

Please note that the course is on a first-come-first served basis, and subject to fulfillment of the course enronment rules and availability of quotas.

  • Is there any pre-reading or preparation to do?

No. It is assumed that any students joining the Principles course, have no experience or knowledge in Kinesiology. Kinesiology is a practical skill and the workshops will be very hands on.

What happens if I can’t make a day?

The course builds sequentially on what was covered the previous day. Ideally, students would be expected to attend each of the eight days. The course is fastpaced and covers a lot of ground quickly, so you would want to give yourself the best chance of getting the most from it.

What will I be able to do after the Principles course?

The course will give you basic knowledge on what Kinesiology is and where it comes from. More importantly, you will have the ability to practice and apply some of the basic fundamental tools and techniques behind this exciting modality. You will come to understand the unique relationship between specific muscles, organs/ glands, and energetic structures, and how to test muscles in order to assess what’s happening in a person’s body. With this, you will be able to perform basic balances on family and friends, helping to deal with some of the stresses impacting them.

Do I need to have knowledge in anatomy and physiology to do the workshops?

No. It is assumed that learners have no prior knowledge or qualifications in anatomy and physiology. It is possible to apply the techniques with very little knowledge in this area.

Who designs and develops your materials?

The Principles Workshops are written and developed by Hugo Tobar, from the NK INSTITUTE in Australia. Kinesiology Asia is responsible for the planning and delivery of those materials.

What options for further study do I have after completing the Principles course?

Once you have completed the Principles course you may choose to continue learning more Kinesiology and join the Foundations course when next offered. The other workshops in Foundations build on Principles, and students learn to start applying Kinesiology protocols and techniques in broader areas.

Is there a governing body for Kinesiology in Hong Kong?

No. Kinesiology is a relatively new and growing modality in this part of the world, and as such, has no formal governing body. Therefore, technically, there are no formal qualification requirements here. The founder of Kinesiology Asia, Brett Scott, pioneered kinesiology in Hong Kong around 2006. As the leading Specialised
