HKFOU Foundations Course

Establishing the structure that will form a solid foundation for your Kinesiology practice.

  • The HKFOU Foundations of Kinesiology is a qualification for students wishing to lay a solid platform in Kinesiology. It is accredited by Kinesiology Asia for Hong Kong. As the title suggests, it focuses on giving students a thorough foundation, including important concepts and principles behind kinesiology, as well as the practical skills necessary to conduct an effective kinesiology balance.

This training program will provide students with the confidence, knowledge and tools to start working effectively with Kinesiology and provides the base for students interested in continuing studies to become professional practitioners. The HKFOU will equip you to balance energy through Acupuncture meridians and the Chakra system and with simple bodywork; like stimulating reflexes and muscle movement. It provides skills in Kinesiology health assessment and balancing.

  • Pre-requisite: Principles Course (HKPRP)

Students who may have other Kinesiology qualifications, such as the Australian HLT42812 Certificate IV in Kinesiology, may apply for recognition of prior learning. It will be up to the instructors to determine the degree of prior learning recognised.

  • Students will need to fill out and sign an enrollment form. The form can be found as an attachment on the education page of the Kinesiology Asia website, or collected in person from Kinesiology Asia. Completed forms should be emailed or handed in at least one week in advance of the first scheduled Foundations workshop.

  • Is there any pre-reading or preparation to do?

For students who would like to read more deeply on the subject, Kinesiology Asia recommends the book, “Energetic Kinesiology” by Krebs and McGowan. This book was released in early 2014 and is an excellent and thorough explanation to the many aspects of Kinesiology. The author, Krebs, is one of the giants in Kinesiology, having developed the LEAP modality. He is a trained scientist with a PhD in Marine Biology. He brings his extensive knowledge on human anatomy, physiology and neurology to explain how Kinesiology works.

What if I miss a workshop?

The workshops are where you learn the hands-on skills to become a competent Kinesiologist. It is in your interest to keep your schedule free for scheduled workshop dates as the workshops build upon each other and missing certain workshops may jeopardise your ability to continue. Should Kinesiology Asia judge that the missed workshop would hinder you and/or the group’s progress then you would have to wait for the next round of Foundation workshops.

Will I be able to work as a professional Kinesiologist after completing my HKFOU course?

The HKFOU will give you the foundation tools and skills to start helping people with Kinesiology, and it will also provide you ample hands-on practice under supervision. However, It is designed as a solid foundation in Kinesiology and those wishing to work professionally should be looking to continue their studies. Kinesiology Asia offers a Practitioner course, for which the HKFOU is a pre-requisite, to those who have decided to pursue a career in Kinesiology.

Do I need to have knowledge in anatomy and physiology to do the course?

No. It is assumed that learners have no prior knowledge or qualifications in anatomy and physiology. It is possible to apply the techniques with very little knowledge in this area, though as your knowledge grows it can refine your Kinesiology application and improve your effectiveness. Knowledge in anatomy and physiology is something we are continually striving to develop as Kinesiologists.

Who designs and develops your materials?

Hugo Tobar, from the NK INSTITUTE in Australia, has developed the workshops taught in the HKFOU. Kinesiology Asia designs the way the workshops are delivered and we also develop materials to supplement the workshops.

What options for further study do I have after completing HKFOU?

Students who wish to continue learning Kinesiology may apply to enroll in the HKPRAC Practitioner of Kinesiology course. The Practitioner course is designed for students considering a career as professional Kinesiologists. There are much more external requirements outside of workshops in the Practitioner course.

Is the HKFOU certificate recognised in other countries?

There is no international governing body or qualification system. This means that courses are created for specific countries. That said the NK workshops that form part of the HKFOU are recognised in Australia. This means that a student looking to move to Australia in the future can have the workshop component counted towards qualifications in that country. He/she would then have to undergo the workbook and assessment work required to bridge over. Tobar’s work is also taught and recognised in parts of Europe and the States. However, students will need to look into the governing body requirements of whatever country they want to work in.
